Infrared Therapy
For many years infrared therapy has been used to treat muscle injuries by physical therapists. They used it in the form of a heat lamp usually red in color. Until recently, you could only use this form of infrared therapy on the body known as "short wave" infrared therapy. Short wave infrared heat makes the heat glow in a red color. Now Purus Far Infrared Saunas offer the "long wave" of infrared heat known as far infrared or FIR. This type of infrared therapy does not come in a lamp that glows red in color. It literally does not glow at all. It looks like the heaters are off but they really are emitting this long wave or far infrared heat.
Why would someone prefer the long wave over the short wave? Physical therapists had to use short wave for many years because they had no other option for infrared therapy. Infrared therapy is the best form of heat for muscle therapy because it is the only heat that is a direct heat and will heat the muscle to treat it and nothing else (like the air or surrounding areas). What the long wave or far wave infrared therapy does better is actually penetrate the skin's surface at about a two inch depth. This heat penetrated deep into the muscle tissue. Using hot rocks has a similar effect but can only heat the area where the rocks are unlike the heaters that are in the Purus Infrared Sauna
which can give your whole body infrared therapy.
